NDIS Personal Training on the Gold Coast: How It Works
If you or someone you support has an NDIS plan, funded exercise support can be one of the most practical ways to build strength, routine, and confidence. Here is how it works in plain terms, and what to look for in a trainer.
Can personal training be funded through the NDIS?
In many cases, yes. Exercise support is commonly funded under Improved Daily Living or Improved Health and Wellbeing when physical activity is linked to a participant's goals, such as improving mobility, coordination, independence, or managing a health condition. A support coordinator, plan manager, or allied health professional can confirm how your specific plan is structured.
Fitness Balance Parkwood is a registered NDIS provider, and I work with self-managed and plan-managed participants across the Gold Coast.
Who it suits
- Children and teenagers who find a commercial gym overwhelming
- Participants on the autism spectrum who benefit from predictable structure
- Adults working on mobility, balance, or general conditioning
- Anyone rebuilding strength after injury, illness, or a long break from activity
How the sessions are structured
Sessions run from my private home gym in Parkwood, a small, quiet space without the noise, crowds, and unpredictability of a large gym. For participants who need it, that alone makes training possible where it otherwise would not be.
Every program is built around what the participant can do now, then progressed slowly. I keep the structure consistent from week to week: same space, same starting routine, clear expectations, and achievable goals that build a sense of progress.
Working with your support team
Good fitness support does not happen in isolation. I coordinate with families, support coordinators, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists so that training reinforces the rest of the plan rather than working against it. If an OT has movement goals, I build toward them. If a physio has restrictions, I work within them.
What to look for in an NDIS trainer
- Registered NDIS provider status, or clear experience with self-managed participants
- A current NDIS Worker Screening Check and, for anyone working with minors, a Blue Card
- Willingness to communicate with your broader support team
- A training environment that actually suits the participant
- Patience, and a track record of adapting sessions rather than forcing a generic program
